Why listening to your car is important

It’s no secret that auto manufacturers are getting ready for a new sales push. If you are in the market for a new car, chances are you have seen Presidents Day sales incentives. Indeed, there is a financial incentive for automakers to push new cars after the holiday season, but there is also are also safety concerns that can be addressed.

Yes, car crashes caused exclusively by mechanical failures are not common, but driver error stemming from these issues can lead to horrible accidents.  Because of this, some car accidents can be prevented by paying attention to unusual noises and having the foresight to take your car in for repairs. This post will identify some noises that you should not ignore.

Squeaks – When you hear this noise, chances are that your brakes need to be replaced.

Whining – This is not because your car is upset with starting on a cold morning. This could signal that important belts (particularly your timing belt) may need to be replaced.

Growls  - You may think that you are only imagining this sound, especially since it may happen intermittently.  However, it could be a symptom of defective wheel bearings.

Humming – A constant humming sound at highway speeds may indicate that your tires are worn. Many tire issues occur when they have not been rotated, or they have been worn on the inside, where they are hard to see.

Individually, these may seem like minor issues, but they could be a recipe for disaster. Keep in mind that as a driver, you have a continuing duty to ensure that your vehicle is in safe operating order while on the road. Drivers who breach this duty could be held liable for causing an accident.
