NHTSA says crash fatalities up in 2015 after decades of decline

Just in time for the holiday travel rush, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released accident data for the first half of 2015. Spoiler alert: It is not good news. For the first time in many years, the number of fatal accidents on U.S. highways increased year-over-year. And not by a little.

In with the new GM and out with the old in switch liability cases

Plaintiffs in cases involving defective ignition switches installed in General Motors Co. vehicles received some good news this week. GM recalled millions of vehicles in 2014 after the faulty switches were linked to multiple accidents. The switches could slip out of the run position, shutting down the vehicle's operating systems, including brakes, power steering and airbags. 

Trucking is a dangerous job, but maybe not for the reasons you think

In mid-October, a multi-vehicle accident closed a stretch of Interstate 55 south of Springfield for several hours, tying up traffic for miles. While workers were clearing the site, another accident occurred. In all, 12 vehicles were involved, including three tractor-trailers, and six people were injured. Fortunately, none of the injuries was life-threatening.
